NCDF celebrates its 40th Anniversary!
On Thursday, September 25, 2008 NCDF will host its annual Salute to Service Community Event. The Salute to Service features the presentation of the Eloise K. Houghton Awards honoring those who have made significant volunteer contributions to the NCDF community. This year, our 40th year, holds considerable significance. Eloise Houghton - a founder, past president, board member, benefactor and dear friend of NCDF- passed away in January. As a leader in the Newton community and a lifelong activist for social equality, human rights, peace and non-violence, Eloise epitomized the true essence of cooperative spirit and volunteerism that characterizes NCDF communities. A special and enduring tribute to Eloise will be established through the renaming of one of the NCDF communities- The Hamlet will become Houghton Village- and a beautifully landscaped garden will be dedicated in Eloise's honor during NCDF's 2008 Community Event. The event will be held from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at The Hamlet Townhouses located on Hamlet Street (off of Langley Road) in Newton Centre.
